5.Cookies, Browser Information and Related Issues.
a. When you visit the Site, we may receive certain standard information that your browser sends to every website you visit, such as the originating IP address, browser type and language, access times and referring website addresses, and other such information. This data may be used, among other uses, to improve the operation of the Site and to improve the security of the Site and Services by assisting in “authenticating” who you are, when you access the Site or Services, particularly if you register for a Service and are issued or create a username and password.
b. We may also receive additional information about your visit to the Site, including the pages you view, the links you click and other actions you take in connection with the Site and the Services. This data may be used, among other uses, to improve and enhance the operation of the Site and the Services.
c. Like most websites, the Site also uses “cookies,” which are small data files placed on your computer or other device by the web server when you visit the Site. Most such cookies are “session” cookies that are only used for a specific period during which you are on the Site, but a few are “persistent” cookies that stay on your hard drive and are read by the web server when you return to the Site (unless you erase them). Cookies cannot and will not be used to deliver or run programs on your computer. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. However, if you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to use the Services.
d. Web beacons: Our Site contains electronic images known as Web beacons (sometimes called single-pixel gifs) and are used along with cookies to compile aggregated statistics to analyze how our Site is used and may be used in some of our emails to let us know which emails and links have been opened by recipients. This allows us to gauge the effectiveness of our customer communications and marketing campaigns.
g. To ensure that your account is safe and that nobody is trying to defraud you or Satoshi Counter from your account, we collect your device fingerprint.
6. What Types of Personal Information We May Collect.
In addition to the types of information described in section 3 above, we may also collect Personal Information about you, depending on the Service you use. This information may include:
a. Name, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number, and other information that we can use to contact you, verify your identity, and manage risks, such as information maintained about you by identity verification services and consumer reporting agencies, including credit bureaus;
b. Bank account information (checking, money market or other direct deposit account, credit card account (including security code), or debit card account, including any required routing information), including account numbers, account balances and transaction history) for accounts that you designate for payments, fees, debits and credits related to the Services;
c. Demographic information such as your age and date of birth.
d. Payment and other transaction information, and history of transactions in which you participate through the Services; and
e. Digital encrypted copies of documentation you may enter in the Site, including government-issued ID that you have submitted for account verification purposes, or any purpose;
f. Any Personal Information that you may enter into information blocks on the Site.
7. How We May Collect Personal Information About You.
We may collect Personal Information about you from the following sources:
a. Electronic data input fields, and other electronic forms that you fill out in connection with the Services;
b. Your use of the Site and the Services (such as when you send a payment), and your interactions with customer care, including information you enter or speak, and information transmitted by your computer, cell phones and other devices you use to connect to the Site or Services; and
c. We may also collect Personal Information about you from others, such as Affiliates, or other companies (such as for fraud detection).
8. How We May Share Personal Information About You.
We share Personal Information about you only as permitted by law. For Personal Information that is nonpublic and that we collect in connection with a financial service, Canadian federal law permits us to share such information only for the purposes shown in the following table:
Exceptions: Cash transactions under $3000 (per 24h period) with Satoshi Counter, where Satoshi Counter deems it unnecessary, may not require you to provide any additional information other than information required to register as a Satoshi Counter member (full name, telephone, and email address). In this case, your information is not shared with any third-party.
9. How We May Use Personal Information About You.
We use Personal Information about you only as permitted by law, including but not limited to the following purposes:
a. To complete transactions and render services authorized by you (such as using a third-party payment processor to collect payment our behalf, or to remit a payment to you on our behalf);
c. For marketing purposes – to offer products and services to you, although you may opt-out of receiving commercial email marketing messages from us by following the opt-out processes described in those messages.
d. If Satoshi Counter is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets that results in a change of the majority ownership of the Site or the Services or the entity that owns them, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Site of any change in ownership or uses of your Personal Information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information.
10. How We Protect Personal Information About You.
To protect Personal Information about you from unauthorized access and use, we maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards, including but not limited to security measures that comply with applicable federal and state laws. We also require our service providers and business partners to whom we disclose the information to do the same. When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number) on our order forms, we encrypt the transmission of that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
